Applications/Nominations For CIE (BC) Energy Awards

 

The Canadian Institute of Energy (BC) accepts applications or nominations for its annual energy awards program.  These awards will be presented during a CIE luncheon  and are intended to recognize excellence in energy-related activities in British Columbia.

The two award categories for which applicants are recognized are:

This award recognizes innovative demand-side management or alternative energy projects which have been implemented in British Columbia.  It is distinguished from the R&D award in that it is limited to operational projects installed in commercial applications, as opposed to projects in the laboratory, pilot plant, or design phases of development.  Evaluative criteria for this award include demonstrated energy savings (or energy output in the case of alternative energy projects), the degree of innovation, British Columbia content, environmental benefits and indirect benefits (such as productivity increases and product quality improvement.

Past winners in this category include Carmanah Technologies Inc., Azure Dynamics Corporation, BCIT's Photovoltaic Energy Applied Research Lab, Ledalite Architectural Products, Taylor Munro Energy Systems, Salt Lick Projects and Elkview Coal Corporation.

Applicants for these awards should provide a description or brochure outlining their technology or project, along with a brief explanation of how it addresses each of the evaluative criteria listed above to Canadian Institute of Energy (BC), 987 Devon Road, North Vancouver, BC V7R 1V8.

Energy Research and Development Award

This award recognizes outstanding R&D achievement in the field of energy technology.  A broad spectrum of potential energy technologies are eligible for this award, including those related to energy extraction, conversion, transportation, and utilization.  Evaluative criteria include the degree of innovation, commercial market potential, British Columbia content, environmental benefits and indirect benefits (such as productivity increases and product quality improvement).

Past winners in this category include Lignol Innovations Corporation, QuestAir Technologies Inc., Dynomotive Technolgies Corporation, M.A. Turbo/Engine Design, NxtPhaseCorporation, BC Research, Westport Innovations, the Integrated Boiler Company and Ballard Power.   

Energy Scholarship:

This award is presented annually to a student majoring in energy policy analysis and/or energy modeling at Simon Fraser University's School of Resource And Environmental Management.
